Large Chamfer Mold Technology

The large chamfer mold technology changes each right angle of the billet to two obtuse angles, improving the temperature uniformity and strain resistance of the billet corners, thereby facilitating the control of edge and corner cracks during continuous casting and rolling deformation processes. This technology has been applied in more than 20 domestic enterprises, with a cumulative production of over 10 million tons of chamfered billets. The incidence of transverse cracks at the corners of continuous casting billets is less than 0.3%, and the incidence of edge cracks in plates and strips under hot delivery conditions is less than 0.4%. In addition, practice has shown that another technical advantage of the large chamfer crystallizer is the control of edge straight crack defects in ultra-low carbon and microalloyed steel plates and strips, which can reduce the occurrence rate of edge straight cracks by more than 75% on the existing basis.
